Disclaimer: Full Metal Panic! Spoiler Alert! I don't own the rights to Full Metal Panic! or the manga. The manga is published by Dragon Comics and the author is Retsu Tateo
This takes place right after Chidori leaves the island at the end of the Full Metal Panic! anime.
Sousuke sat on the rock thinking about Chidori. He had been assigned to protect her from any threat. He was transferred to her school where he made a complete fool out of himself. Though, he had always came out on top in the end of everything. He had saved Chidori quite a few times from the terrorists.
At first she just saw him as the freak who was a military fan boy. I did do some pretty stupid things like that time when i ran into the girl's locker room to see if i could join the Girls Softball Team. Though, after the Desert Campaign that Sousuke had been assigned to, he realized how much he missed Chidori's offensive attitude when she wasn't around. Chidori had been away at the beach at the time, but had a feeling of emptiness since Sousuke went off to his homeland for a mission.
Sousuke watched as the plane headed for Tokyo took off. He felt this tingling sensation as he saw the plane disappear over the horizon. Sousuke instantly jumped up and ran through the jungle back to base.
"I've really got to do something that will allow me to take my mind off of Chidori Kaname." Sousuke said aloud as he ran through the jungle path. He thought about all the times he had tried to kill Gauln in the past. It was almost as if he was invincible. Eventually, Sousuke found out that Gauln had a metal plate implanted in his head, which made him invulnerable to head shots. Sousuke was shocked to hear this when it first came to his knowledge. He had tried to do in Gauln so many times, but it had never worked and Gauln would always come back with a plan that was more evil than the last. After seeing all the extreme condiions in which he had "killed" Gauln, he always managed to survive. Sousuke felt relieved with the calm as he launched Gauln off the MITHRIL submarine. He had impressed everyone and showed everyone the extent of his abilities in the Arbalest. Sousuke began to tense up as he thought about the possibility that Gauln had survived. Every time Gauln had survived he always came and tried to attack and capture one of the Whispered, the group of people who know all about the Black Technology from birth.
Sousuke entered the firing range wondering what had become of Chidori. Once Sousuke took out an AK-47 to practice his accuracy on moving targets, his mind shifted to the moment and he thought only of hitting those targets with the AK, conserving as many bullets as he can. His finger began to squeeze the trigger, but then removed his finger from the trigger. Chidori had popped back into his mind. All he could think of were her offensive remarks to him, the smiles she gave to him, and the times she had saved his butt on the battlefield. Sousuke replaced his finger to the trigger and squeezed it violently. The AK-47 kicked to life and Sousuke was barely able to control it. Sousuke had grown up, trained to use these kinds of guns on the battlefield. He was just as surprised as Commander Tessa Taisasono when his scores for this session came out so low. He had a 10% accuracy, it had dropped 75% from an 85% accuracy. He shot off the whole clip he had been given. Tessa scolded him for his terrible performance, and told him that he must concentrate on the matter at hand.
Sousuke stood up from the chair inside Tessa's office, he looked at her in disbelief. Tessa was also 17, like Sousuke, and a Whispered. She designed the MITHRIL submarine that Sousuke was assigned to and from the stories he had heard, Tessa's brother was much smarter than Tessa herself.
Sousuke walked over to the door leading outside into the hallway when Tessa said, "Stop, I'm not finished with you Sagara-san."
Sousuke stopped and turned and said, "Roger." He then made his way back to his seat where he sat down in true military fashion.
"We've just got reports that the organization that Gauln had been employed by began producing the Soviet Savages. Since you are the only skilled pilot we have, we are sending you to Russia to investigate this situation further." She said as she paced around the room playing with her silvery white hair.
"How will I get into the country Commander?" Sagara asked eagerly.
"We are reassigning you as the bodyguard of Chidori Kaname. We have reason to believe that she may be in trouble and her class is going to Russia as part of their field trip. When you get into the country and are going to infiltrate the factory, please radio us in so we can prepare the Arbalest for battle." Tessa had stopped behind Sagara and was now twirling her hair around delicately. She looked down at Sagara who was still looking straight ahead at the wall. She gave Sagara a pat on the back.
"Dismissed!"
Sousuke got up from his chair and walked back to his cabin. All his belongings had not been unpacked yet, so he was ready to leave for Tokyo in about an hour
"Chidori is going to be surprised when I appear on the first day back from summer vacation." Sousuke said to himself with a smile as he closed his trunk. He dragged it along to the helicopter. It was the same helicopter that originally took him to Tokyo. Sure enough, Melissa and Kurz were waiting on the helipad ready to wish Sagara luck on his new assignment.
After many "good lucks", Sagara loaded his trunk onto the helicopter.
"Remember, if you need our help, just request our support from the Commander. I'm sure she'll understand." Kurz said hopefully.
"I'll be sure to do so." Sagara said smoothly. Sousuke was amazed at how relaxed he was when speaking. He had never been this calm since before he could remember.
"Sousuke, I've known you for a couple of years now. I trained you to be an elite soldier. You are gifted when piloting Armored Slaves. Kurz and I are always ready to help you in any way possible." Melissa said with a very aplomb look in her eyes.
After a very long good bye, Melissa and Kurz left the helipad to attend to their duties elsewhere. Sagara watched as the helicopter lifted off and slowly, the MITHRIL Headquarters disappeared from sight.
